The Significance of Namaaz
In the Quran, Allah Subhanahu says, وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ – And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me – Surat al Dhariyat, Ayat 56. One of the best ways to worship Allah is through namaaz(salaat), and in that spirit we present this Namaaz module to help mumineen and their children to pray namaaz with a deeper understanding and in the correct manner.
Namaaz is one of the seven mandatory pillars of Islam and it is known as “the face of Islam.” Just as each human being is recognized by their face, the way we pray namaz becomes our identity and how we are recognized by God. In the Kitab Daaim al Islam, it is written that on the Day of Judgement the Almighty will first look at the worshipper’s book of salaat (namaaz) and if that is empty then he will not look at any of his other good deeds.
Allah ta’ala also says, إِنَّنِي أَنَا اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدْنِي وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ لِذِكْرِي – Indeed, I Am Allah. (There is) no god but I, so worship Me and establish the prayer for My remembrance – Surat Taha, Ayat 14. When we pray namaaz properly as taught by Rasulullah SA, Aimmat and Duat, we become closer to God and he protects us from the works of Shaitaan. Our sins get erased and our prayers are answered.
Each part of the namaaz – standing, bowing, prostrating, and sitting – have many deep meanings and significances. When we perform namaaz we should do so with the utmost humility and with complete attention to the act of worship. We should always remember that when we are in namaaz, we are in fact standing before God Almighty as a thankful worshipper.
It is also stated in the Quran that the namaaz is an obligation on the believers to be performed on its given time. One should be very particular about the timings of each individual namaaz.
It is said by our hudaat, that when a child reaches the age of seven the importance of performing namaaz should be emphasized and enforced. Parents can start by encouraging their child to pray a single faraz, for example maghrib, and then build on each namaaz slowly so that by the time the child gives misaq, all aspects of namaaz are perfected.
Fatemi Madrasa is pleased to present a pray along audio/video for maghrib wuzu and maghrib faraz namaz. It is encouraged that for children who do not know how to pray namaaz or haven’t memorized their namaaz duas that they pray along with this audio and video during namaaz time, preferably on a daily basis. We are also pleased to present an English and Dawat ni Zaban translation of all namaz doas to facilitate understanding and memorization of namaaz.
